About Team Ghana

My name is Alita Watson, I am from Minneapolis Minnesota and I went to Tamale in 2007 to teach reproductive health as a volunteer, having no idea how my life would be forever changed.

Initially there were 15 students in my class, but soon everyone heard there was a redheaded woman with a lot of "mosquito bites" (freckles), talking about sex in Tamale! Within two weeks there were over 65 kids in my class. I'm sure I learned more than my students did, about a culture that revolves around tradition, family, kindness and joy!

It was with this in mind that I made a commitment to these brilliant and determined young women. I hope to see each and everyone one of them graduate, and as many as possible fulfill their dreams. Most of those dreams already involve giving back to their family and community.

Brilliant Future International would not be possible if it weren't for the self-less commitment of the in-country team and family in Tamale:

Mohammad Awal Iddrisu
